The study of Aion…

Veteran Rewards

Rikto | 11/19/2009 | 8:15 pm

Here is the list of vet rewards for your first 6 months of playing Aion.

They seem ok, not great, but ok since I was not expecting anything at all. I wish more games would follow in the steps of Ultima Online and give some more interesting items that at least make your character look better and are permanent.  A Lodas Amulet is nice and all, but once I use it it’s gone and I get only a very small benefit from it. Dances are also nice, but…yeah. Things like an awesome looking piece of armor or unique and rare armor color dye would be better imo.

Month 1: Pop Daeva

  • Expand Cube Ticket
  • Pop Legend emote
  • 4 Lodas Amulets
  • 4 Revival Stones

You jumped into Aion and are off exploring the visually stunning world of Atreia. To help you along in your travels, we will give you four Lodas Amulets, four Revival Stones, an exclusive Pop Legend emote, and an Expand Cube Ticket.

Month 2: Honored Daeva

  • 4 Lodas Amulets
  • 4 Revival Stones

This month, we will give you four more Lodas Amulets and Revival Stones to fortify you against the challenges ahead. Good luck! Atreia is counting on you.

Month 3: Dance Daeva

  • Adept of Aion title
  • Forbidden Dance emote
  • 4 Lodas Amulets
  • 4 Revival Stones

Your commitment has earned you the title “Adept of Aion” and another exclusive emote: Forbidden Dance! In addition, we will give you four Lodas Amulets and four Revival Stones.

Months 4 and 5: Honored Daeva

  • 4 Lodas Amulets
  • 4 Revival Stones

These months, we will give you four more Lodas Amulets and Revival Stones to fortify you against the challenges ahead. Good luck! Atreia is counting on you.

Month 6: Soaring Daeva

  • Wing Feather of the Black Cloud Traders (level 40)
  • 4 Lodas Amulets
  • 4 Revival Stones

Unique item dye colors available to Ultima Online veterans. (This kind of thing is a better idea.)

My characters

Rikto | 09/24/2009 | 4:51 pm

Sorry about not having any posts for the past few days. I bet everyone can guess what I was doing. So far I have a level 20 Spiritmaster and a level 18 Templar. Both are really fun, but I hear that most classes don’t start to get really good till around level 25-30, so I’m looking forward to that. The leveling does get a little bit slower starting around 20, but there are still lots of quests. I’ve only had to grind a little with my Spiritmaster from level 18 1/2 to 19 because I could not get a team for the krall quests :-( .

Here are some pictures of my characters:

My Templar:
Rock at level 18

My Spiritmaster:

Akiha at level 20

If anyone ever wants to team with me, just send me a msg :-) .

What is your favorite character so far and what level, class and race are you?

Final Update before release!

Rikto | 09/18/2009 | 2:55 am

According to the main Aion website the final patch that updates beta clients to release version should be released in the next few hours.

Here is the post from the main AIon page:

Greetings!

As we draw closer to tomorrow I wanted to give everyone a brief update on the progress of our live version. We are excited to announce that we will be serving out the final update for you to patch within the next few hours. You will be able to use this version for both our Preselection and our Head Start. We are very excited with our final product and think that you will be as well! Below are the release notes for the patch you will see later today:

- Aion now features all three languages French, German and English. To select your language simply right click on Aion within your launcher and go to Properties->Language Options. Please select which languages you wish to download and which you wish Aion to display.

- After analyzing our open beta test results Aion will not feature GameGuard at launch. We will however continue to pursue ways to effectively utilize GameGuard within Aion in the future. Right now we’re focused on providing players with the best possible Aion experience.

- The level cap is now level 50 (previously 45).

- Players will be able to reserve 2 character names during Preselection and create 8 characters in total once Head Start begins and beyond.

- Channels will be set to 10 instances for the beginning 2 zones of each faction. Please note that these will be lowered as characters progress and spread throughout Atreia.

No more GameGuard! I think some people will be very happy to hear that. It caused no problems for me, but for a lot of people this change will make the game playable and error free.

I am also glad that they changed the number of channels (instances) back to 10, from the 2 it was set to at the end of the open beta. It can be a real pain when questing and there are too many people around to complete a quest, as I expect there will be at release.

Now I’m just waiting till noon tomorrow and then till Sunday….

Prepare for Preselection!

Rikto | 09/17/2009 | 7:37 pm

So preselection is coming up tomorrow. Are you ready? Since you can only create 2 characters for preselection you have to make sure you get your two favorite names. What I’m doing is making a list with the names I want (it’s a big list lol). Now that I have the list, trying to narrow it down is harder than I first expected. I still don’t even know what server I will be playing on yet.

If anyone has a server recommendation let me know. :-)

New 618mb patch and OB extended!

Rikto | 09/12/2009 | 6:48 pm

So servers are down for a bit now and there is a new patch to download. I’m downloading it at the moment on three computers and its going pretty fast, hopefully it’s the same for everyone else.

Here is the post from the beta forums:

Please find all the information about this big update on the official website.Patch notes will follow shortly. This update should address several known connectivity issues as well as add a lot of other changes.

EDIT: ALL servers will go down in prepararion for this patch at 03 p.m. PST, 11 p.m. BST (more) and will be back up around 2 hours later.
Please make sure to download the patch once the servers go down and the patch is available.

Patchnotes should be coming soon. We are still working on formatting them.

Here are some of the new patch notes:

Login and server select lag should be resolved.  This is one of the major reasons for pushing this update to ensure it is resolved for live.1. The mouse will now turn the character (not the camera) when holding down both mouse buttons.

This is something I was really hoping they would do. Most of the time I just use the WASD and hold down right click to turn, however, sometimes I’m lazy and don’t want to use my left hand at all and this can be quite useful.

2. Territory specific files are now in place to prepare for multiple languages.  Please ensure your launcher is set to the correct territory under settings.3. Updated support and errors links throughout the game.

4. Servers are now labeled appropriately for their region or language.

5. Our language filter is now fully operational.  ******in’s can now freely talk about their cl***

All I have to say about this one is… LOL…

I also noticed this one:

Characters can now move more freely in Verteron Fortress.

I’m not sure exactly what that means though.

Here are the known issues that have yet to be fixed:

1. Legions names that are above 16 characters are cut off once you log out and back in.
2. Quest: Defeat the Eastern Garrison:  Garrison patrols are not dropping the proper insignia.
3. Quest: Intention of Lord Marchutan: You only need to resurrect 20 comrades not 500.
4. UI: Some quests are cut off in the journal.
5. Cutscenes:  Misc audio and text sync issues.
6. The Sanctum teleporter map is functioning but is inverted.
7. Dredgion Instance: Issues displaying proper map.
8. Headgear falls under the hairpin category at the Broker.
9. Some website links are pointing to non existing pages.

Number 1 has really been bothering me since my guild is named “Style Over Substance” and the name got cut down to “Style Over Subst” so it looks somewhat stupid. :-(

Open Beta Live Feed! (maybe…)

Rikto | 09/06/2009 | 3:59 am

So I’m messing around with doing a live feed of me playing in the open beta. The quality probably sucks, but I can’t find a better way to do it so… This is better than nothing at least.

I am playing the American open beta, however I am using the Japanese voices instead of the English voices, but everything else is exactly the same. (Just so people don’t get confused about the version I’m playing.)

Edit: I’m not running the live feed at the moment because it slows my game down a little bit and no one is watching right now. However, if someone wants to watch actually just post a comment and then I’ll turn the live feed back on.

Edit 2: I took the feed off of this stie because it has so many stupid ads that play when you load the page. Go here if you are still interested.

First Update!

Rikto | 09/02/2009 | 11:54 pm

The best way to start leveling fast is to… Choose a character class! Without one of those I’d like to see how far you get. So I have added a class page for each class with at least one video showing a little bit of what each class is like to help you choose before you start playing. It’s harder than I thought it would be to find videos with good players and no horrible music. All videos are also in HD.

Here are the links to each page:

Assassin

Chanter

Cleric

Gladiator

Ranger

Sorcerer

Spiritmaster

Templar

I hope this info can be of at least a little help in choosing your class.
